The goal is to wrap the gifts in a simple and minimal way, while still maintaining the cheerful spirit of the season! We focus on highlighting wrapping ideas that are easy to bring to life—whether with materials you already have at home or simple supplies from your local craft store. The key to sustainable gift wrapping is to focus on using biodegradable or reusable materials to ensure your gift wrap is as kind to the planet as it is beautiful.

01 / Fabric Wrapping Furoshiki (Japanese Gift Wrapping)

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

— A square piece of fabric (a silk scarf, bandana, or leftover fabric works beautifully; size depends on the gift)

— Scissors

— Optional: pins to secure the fabric

— Optional: sprig of greenery or dried flowers

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

01 — Prepare the Fabric
If you use fabric, tear it into the right size. To do so, simply make a notch at the desired measurement and then tear the fabric in direction of lengthwise grain and the crosswise grain.

02 — Lay the Fabric Flat
Start by laying the square fabric flat on a clean surface, with the patterned or “nice” side facing down. Position it like a diamond (one corner pointing towards you).

03 — Place the Gift in the Center
Put your gift in the center of the fabric. For best results, use a box or item with a flat surface.

04 — Fold the First Two Corners
Take the corner closest to you and fold it over the gift to cover it. Then, take the opposite corner (the one farthest from you) and fold it over the top. Tuck the fabric neatly underneath the gift to keep it in place. If you want to give some extra security, you can pin the fabric in place.

05 — Tie the Remaining Two Corners
Grab the two remaining corners on the left and right sides. Pull them up over the gift and tie them together in a secure knot. Adjust the knot so it sits nicely on top.

06 — Add Finishing Touches (Optional)
If you’d like, add a festive touch, such as a sprig of greenery or dried flowers tucked into the knot.

WHY IT’S GREAT

Furoshiki is a beautiful, sustainable alternative to paper wrapping. The fabric can be reused as a scarf, napkin, or even for future gift wrapping—making it a gift in itself! Plus, it adds an elegant, personal touch to your holiday presents!

02 / Natural Paper, Jute Ribbon and Dried Flowers

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

— Natural wrapping paper or stiff fabric (such as linen, flax, or canvas)

— Jute twine or natural string

— Dried or fresh flowers (like eucalyptus, lavender, or baby’s breath)

— Scissors

— Optional: pins to secure the fabric or tape for paper

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

01 — Wrap the Gift
Lay your natural paper or fabric flat on a clean surface. Place the gift in the center and wrap it snugly, folding the edges neatly. If using fabric, tuck any loose ends for a clean finish. Secure the paper with tape if needed, or simply hold the fabric in place, you can use pins if needed.

02 — Wrap the Jute Twine
Take the jute twine and begin wrapping it around the gift several times horizontally, to create a layered look. Leave enough length to tie a knot on the back side of the gift.

03 — Secure the Jute
Once you’re happy with the jute placement, tie the twine securely at the back. Adjust any loose strands to ensure they lay flat.

04 — Add the Flowers
Slide a few stems of dried or fresh flowers into the jute layers on the front of the gift. Position them slightly off-center for a natural, elegant look. If needed, trim the stems with scissors to fit the size of the gift.

05 — Finishing Touches
Fluff and arrange the flowers as desired. If using fresh flowers, choose some that will last without water, or add them just before gifting.

WHY IT’S GREAT

This wrapping technique combines natural textures and a touch of nature, creating a simple yet sophisticated gift. It’s fully sustainable—using reusable or biodegradable materials—and feels special with the added beauty of flowers. It’s a perfect way to show thoughtfulness while staying eco-friendly.

03 / Natural Paper with hand painted Illustrations

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

— Natural wrapping paper (brown, white, dark green, or dark red work beautifully)

— Paints (watercolors, acrylics, or whatever you have handy)

— Paintbrushes (fine-tipped brushes are great for details)

— A clean workspace and protective covering (like newspaper or a drop cloth)

— Scissors

— Tape

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

01 — Prepare the Paper
Roll out your natural paper on a clean, flat surface. If you’re working with large sheets, cut them to the approximate size you’ll need for your gift. Place protective covering underneath to avoid paint stains.

02 — Paint Your Illustrations
Using your paintbrush and paints, create simple illustrations like bows, tiny Christmas trees, stars, or snowflakes. Space the designs evenly across the paper for a polished look. Let your creativity shine—these can be as minimalist or detailed as you like. Allow the paint to dry completely before moving on.

03 — Wrap the Gift
Once the paint is dry, use your beautifully decorated paper to wrap your gift. Fold the edges neatly and secure them with tape. If your gift is boxed or otherwise protected from paint, you can reverse steps 2 and 3, wrapping the gift first and then painting your designs directly onto the paper.

WHY IT’S GREAT

Hand-painted wrapping paper turns a simple material into something unique and heartfelt. It’s an eco-friendly alternative to store-bought wrapping paper, and the personal illustrations make it feel extra special. Plus, it’s a fun, creative activity to get into the holiday spirit!
