Steamery - Changing the way we care for our clothes

GONE ARE THE DAYS OF SHEER PANIC WHEN YOU’VE REALISED YOU’VE BURNT A GARMENT WHILST IRONING. NO MORE CATASTROPHES, PANICKED PHONE CALLS TO MUM OR GOOGLING HOW TO REVERSE A BURN ON A CLEAN WHITE SHIRT. FOUNDED IN STOCKHOLM IN 2014, STEAMERY IS A CLOTHING CARE BRAND THAT’S REVOLUTIONISING THE WAY WE TAKE CARE OF OUR GARMENTS. IT HELPS US TO MAKE OUR CLOTHES LAST LONGER AND NOT BE UNNECESSARILY THROWN AWAY WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT.

A lot of our grandparents’ and parents’ generations understood the importance of ‘make do and mend’ - ensuring that clothes last longer. Nowadays the issues of fast fashion and throw-away trends mean that people are far less likely to look after their clothes. But the arrival of enterprises such as Steamery means that this attitude is starting to change.

The products include a steamer, (there’s a plain steamer or a hybrid option with an iron), an electric fabric shaver, a lint brush, a sewing kit, laundry products and more. All these make the perfect combination to keep your garments alive and well. They've even created their own range of laundry detergents with sensational scents, no harsh chemicals, and produced in a climate neutral factory in Vadstena, Sweden.

This considerate company invites you to be kind to your wardrobe, giving clothes a quick refresh and making them feel like new again. Steamery was founded by three people. Petra Ringström had her own made-to-order silk clothing brand. Martin Lingner was a Management Consultant and Frej Lewenhaupt was a Textile Engineer. They thought of the idea of the Steamery whilst in Shanghai, realising that there was a lack of knowledge about how to care properly for clothes in the West, thus causing people to constantly throw away clothes. The philosophy of the brand is to educate people on clothing care whilst making it something new and fun, all while encouraging a slow fashion lifestyle.

And they have been created with impeccably understated style. Quite often these types of care products have an ‘industrial’ look about them, whereas Steamery has come up with an aesthetically pleasing range. The items are ideal if you’re traveling too. They fit in your suitcase (even the steamer) so it’s great for when you’re unpacking your suitcase and everything comes out in a crinkled heap. Steamery means you can easily make sure your clothes are ready to wear (and save on laundry bills too).

We love the Steamer and the electric fabric shaver. The steamer is not only useful for getting rid of crinkles, it works like a dream on keeping pleats and ruffles defined. The electric fabric shaver gently removes lint and pilling from your garments and you can use it on any textiles including cotton, wool and cashmere. Using them means your wardrobe stays clean, crisp and crinkle free. In addition to clothes, you can use the products on home textiles such as blankets, cushions, bed linen and more.

Taking care of clothing can usually seem like a chore but Steamery makes it less of a tedious task and encourages you to think about nurturing your wardrobe. We wear our clothes everyday to get us through every task, job and moment. Our clothes give us the confidence to step out and face each day so it makes sense to take care of them. The Steamery products can work for your smart shirt for the office, your favourite cosy jumper at home or even a statement taffeta gown for those special occasions - the brand’s great versatility means it covers every sartorial refresh challenge.

So when your sweater starts pilling, don’t automatically think it’s time to bin it - use the electric fabric shaver. Dreaming of a wrinkle free, crisp cotton shirt? Steamery has the answer. No more fashion fatigue or fashion flops. It’s easy to use, will save you money too, and give you a definite sense of achievement at doing your bit for the planet and keeping your clothes pristine all at the same time. Smart in every sense of the word.
